A mercator projection, cropped to rectangular boundary, may be used to display more than 180 degrees of view, though it is necessary to relax the constraint that all possible straight lines map to straight lines in the image (notice the curvature of objects in the image). This kind of picture looks a little bit like the pictures taken by the panoramic cameras like the Kodak circuit 10.
