For Immediate Release
October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality Honors Victims of Police
Murder
The October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the
Criminalization of a Generation announces nationally coordinated induction
ceremonies for the Stolen Lives Project. At these ceremonies, family
members will talk about the precious lives that have been stolen from them
and us. And the names of the victims will be added to the hundreds of
victims already memorialized in the Stolen Lives Project.
The ceremony in New York will be held on April 19, 1999, at 7 PM, at the
Washington Square Methodist Church on West 4th Street between Sixth Avenue
and Washington Square Park in Manhattan.
If you are outraged by the 41 shots fired at Amadou Diallo by the NYPD, if
you are sickened to death by the killing of Tyisha Miller by Riverside,
CA, police as she lay unconscious in her car, if you are horrified by the
Border Patrol shooting of Oscar Cordoba Velez, a young Mexican immigrant,
in the heart, if you are horrified by the murder of Brennan King, shot
five times in the back by police in a Chicago housing project . . .
Then you need to be a part of a DAY OF DEDICATION AND MOURNING in memory
of those listed above and all those lives have been stolen by law
enforcement. The authorities tell us that the cases of Abner Louima,
Anthony Baez and Amadou Diallo are isolated incidents. The families at
this ceremony will be living representatives of the fact that police
brutality is a naitonwide epidemic. Nicholas Heyward Jr., Anthony
Rosario, Patrick Bailey, Anibal Carrasquillo and others who have been
murdered cannot speak for themselves. But we can, and we will speak for
them!
For more information or to interview some of the family members, or speak
with October 22nd Coalition organizers, call the Coalition at (212)
477-8062. Or fax us at (212) 477-8015.
