Adds PCMCIA Release 2 support to any
16-bit Ampro CPU module
Supports Type I-IV Flash, SRAM, ATA
hard drive, and I/O cards
Choice of one or two PCMCIA card slots
Extensive support software: PCMCIA
Socket Services and Card Services
Includes TFFSTM flash file system for long,
reliable media life
"Hot" card insertion/removal
5 Volt only operation
Low power operation (20 mA typ.)
PC/104 bus-compatible
The MiniModule/PCMCIA interface
simplifies the integration of Type I-IV
PCMCIA cards into embedded systems
based on Ampro's Little Board and
CoreModule embedded computer
modules. PCMCIA cards are well suited
to embedded-PC applications where
compactness, ruggedness, low power
consumption, or removability are desired.
Functions currently available via
PCMCIA cards include memory cards,
network interfaces, modems, miniature
hard disk drives, and a variety of
specialized interfaces. PCMCIA memory
cards are especially valuable as Solid
State Disks (SSDs), when large storage
capacity (up to 64 Megabytes) or
removable media are needed.
The MiniModule/PCMClA is based on
the popular Databook TCIC-2N
PCMCIA controller chip and is supported
with a comprehensive set of PCMCIA
software drivers and utilities. The
development kit includes PCMCIA
Socket Services and Card Services.
M-Systems' True Flash File System
(TFFS) makes PCMCIA Flash cards
usable as normal read/write DOS disk
drives. TFFS also provides the wear-
leveling and media management
necessary to assure maximum Flash
media life. Databook's CardTalk drivers
and utilities manage the installation and
operation use of PCMCIA SRAM, I/O,
and ATA (disk drive) cards.
Physically, the MiniModule/PCMCIA
basically conforms to the PC/104 form-
factor (3.6 x 3.8 in.), except that the
module is "stretched" (to 4.3 in.) on the
edge opposite the PC/104 bus so that the
PCMCIA card can be fully supported by
a card guide and ejector mechanism. The
module is offered in several variations,
having either one or two PCMCIA slots,
and with a choice of either PC/104 16-bit
Version 2 "double-stackthrough" or
Version 1 "right-angle P2" bus
connectors.
The MiniModule/PCMCIA includes an
onboard +12V DC converter, to satisfy
the stringent programming power
requirements of typical PCMCIA Flash
cards. This DC converter also eliminates
the need for a separate +12V power
supply.
