We have not yet used a system which meets our needs. However, several hardware and service providers are listed here for convenience. Evaluations as they come in.

CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data)

Currently, Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile is offering CDPD service in the greater Boston (out to 495), Rhode Island, and New York City areas. We are getting about 9K baud on large file transfers through ftp. 500ms lag. They basically give you an IP address to program into your CDPD modem, so your wearable really looks like an Internet box.
